Kashubia in the circle of friends and nature.

In Poland we would find lots of beautiful,  important and peculiar places. They are a magnet for tourists, an arena of turbulent events, heroes of literature and inspiration for painters. But only a few of them deserve to be called magical as Kashubia, which is situated in Pomerania. The magic of this region is in the beauty of its unique landscapes, the secrets of this land and its peculiarities. There are few places where the past and the future are so incredibly intertwined as in Kashubia. Beautiful culture, their own  language, rich tradition and a great love of nature helped to preserve the values which create a unique landscape in today’s modern world. It's full of warmth and unfathomable mystery, tranquility and comfort. Kashubians are open and hospitable people who know their traditions very well and who are leading their lives in their homeland, which surprises visitors with its extreme possibilities of relaxation . In central and southern Kashubia we find hundreds of great lakes, as Raduńskie, Wdzydze or Charzykowskie and some quite tiny and  hidden in unusual woods, which are usually a part of one hundred ¬ nature reserves, such as the "Seven Lakes of Chośniccy1." A large part of them are lobelia lakes, which in Bytów area alone are more than 50 .The rivers in the area of Kashubian Ring are similar to  the mountain streams. It is no wonder that this part of Lakeland is called Kashubian Switzerland. In the area of Kartuzy and Kościerzyna stretches a picturesque Szymbarskie hills with Wieżyca dominating over the area – ‘Kashubian Olympus' the highest peak on the Central European Lowlands. Lakes  were mainly formed during the postglacial. It is worth to see Raduńskie Circle - a true paradise for seekers of watersports experience which consists of eleven interconnected lakes. The northern part of the area, including  the range  area of Lębork county, is an amazing combination of so-called Kashubian Lakes with the marine ones. Łeba  which has been a kind of "gateway" to the Baltic Sea ,for many years has been acclaimed by tourists wishing to relax among the stunning landscapes, supplement  energy and improve their shape by using  attractions offered by this city. Magnificent sand dunes, Slowiński National Park, declared a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve, a number of monuments, a rich repertoire of cultural and sporting events of international concern are a great showcase of the Lębork area. In the district capital - Lębork - the beautiful old town is definitely a thing worth to see. Kartuzy District covers an area of ??so-called  Kashubian Switzerland. In the south of Kashubia, near Chojnice are Bory Tucholskie National Park. Wherever you get, you come across rare examples of flora and fauna, old trees and meadows. This is because in Kashubian songs, which are still singed  at every opportunity, there are so many words about the sea, lake and forest. In the vicinity of Kościerzyna, near Lake Wdzydze also called "Kashubian Sea"              are Wdzydze Kiszewskie1. In the southern part of this picturesque village there is the Poland's oldest open air museum - the Kashubian Ethnographic Park under the auspices of Teodora and Izydor Gulgowskich, where you can see  the 17th -19th century Kashubian cottages, farmsteads petty gentry, country houses, windmills and wooden church of saint Barbara which had been moved here from the village Swornegacie. Not far from here is Wiel, a town with unusual Wielewska Calvary  built on the hills. In the chapels there can be found the shrines of saints and statues - the works of folk sculptors. The feasts of Kashubian storytellers are annually held here and these storytellers tend to enchant guests for hours of touching and amusing stories. Bytów with its magnificent medieval castle is definitely worth seeing and it is where the Museum of Western Kashubian with collections of folk sculpture and a stylish restaurant are located. The impressive tournaments are organized in the castle. Several hundred sites are located throughout the area of  Bytów district, among the beautiful scenery and the atmosphere of  very lively Kashubian culture, which helps you to get to know the history of this place, with traces of ancestors on this land a few thousand years, visible close to Bobięciński Lake, Trzebiatkowa, Grabów and Piaszno. In medieval Chojnice there was a castle belonging to the dukes of Pomerania, and in the 16th and 17th century it was the famous center of Lutheranism. To this day, have been preserved the fragments of walls from the 14th century  basilica, Gothic Basilica of the name of  Beheading of John the Baptist and the Jesuit church of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

They always have some snuff for the guests, which they take from the beautiful, handmade snuff box. Kashubians have their own language with grammar and spelling. It retains the elements of the ancient Slavs language. Kashubian-Polish dictionaries , textbooks for teaching have been published  and there is also a gospel Kashubian whereby increasingly heard in churches Kashubian liturgy of the word. Arduousness and stubbornness are the features of all Kashubia. Because they had succeeded they could preserve not only their language, but also culture and customs. Maybe that's why in Kashubia no man despise - as it often happens elsewhere - folk culture. It could not be closed in open-air museums and general museums, it was not exterminated by popular culture, it goes on away from the big cities, where it experiences a kind of renaissance. Sculpture, ceramics Necels of Chmielna, famous Kashubian embroidery, poetry, music, dancing, horn snuff boxes and musical instruments. Kashubian Lakeland is the nicest place which you can think of.
